A final report is made in every project, sometimes even smaller reports are made during the process. It is possible to publish the results in many kinds of publishing channels. This guide gives you some tips on how to do that.
Open publishing is important
According to publication policy of Savonia, we are committed to open access publishing every time it's possible. Project publishing is open if our partners allow that. Open publishing increases your visibility and impact as well as our organization's. In addition, publishing in different channels probably gives you a larger audience. Not forgetting publication points that guarantee our organization more funding.
This page is for general information. For more special publishing alternatives, see the pages above.
Choosing your publication channel depends on who you want to reach - for example your professional community or bigger masses. You must decide whether you want to publish locally, nationally, or on a world scale. You also have to take into consideration if your publication is scientific or not. You can even do publications of a different kind from one topic.

Scholarly journal publishing requires more effort, but it increases your merit as a researcher. In Savonia we encourage our staff to publish open access articles. For example, we have agreements with some publishers that allow open access publishing in their databases (Science Direct and Sage) free of charge. However, in some of these databases there is only a limited number of free open access articles available per year for Finnish scientific libraries. Ask more from our library.

In Savonia we prefer open access publishing, but you can control the level of openness. You may for example choose whether you allow commercial use of your work or want to distribute it always in the same format. There are a lot of variations.
We recommend that you use Creative Commons licences, which you can use to grant permission for others to use your work under copyright law. In addition to law and research ethics, remember to take into account the funders’ and research organizations' terms and instructions.

When you negotiate with the publishers, remember to agree on the terms of primary publication rights and how these rights are shared temporally or concerning research data.
