Publishing your project: Savonia University of Applied Sciences Serie

Savonia University of Applied Sciences Serie

In Savonia UAS serie we publish for example final reports of projects, different kinds of reviews, textbooks, and article collections. It is desirable that all final reports of Savonia projects are published in this serie.

You can find these publications in their own collection in Theseus. By saving your reports in Theseus, you guarantee your publications’ open access and permanent storage.

Text, pictures, figures, and tables are always published openly in our serie. You should also use an open license to license your own images. Otherwise, further use of them, and therefore also the further use of the whole publication, is not possible. Our layout editor takes care of copyright marking:

Project final report to Savonia University of Applied Sciences Serie

At its simplest, final report summarizes the project plan, tells what has happened during the project, and estimates, if its goal has been achieved and how it can be made use of.

You can use the following list to help you with the final report:

1. Project background, starting points and goals

  • reason for the project
  • earlier reports and projects from the topic
  • possible larger entity behind the project
  • goals of the project
  • project organization, the most important stakeholders, time, duration, funding

2. Description of the project

  • content and steps of the project concisely (what was done, which methods were used)
  • cooperative parties

3. Assessment of goal realization and implementation

  • reached results
  • results versus set targets
  • what went well or not so well, what to do differently in the future, which working methods should be developed
  • how successful were the informing and communication methods

4. Further measures and suggestions

  • who is responsible for new activity and utilization of the results afterwards
  • can the results lead to the changes of established customs
  • new project ideas

How to edit layout

Images

Financiers of the project can set conditions for the final report layout. These can include their information details and logos.

Publication can also include other images which should be high quality. Prefer original images when possible. Mark the creators of the pictures, even if the picture is your own. If you use other people's images, make sure you have permission to use them. Free photo banks are highly recommended for illustration. If the use of an image by someone else, is not prohibited and it strongly supports the content of your publication, you may use it by citing under section 22 of the copyright act.

Note that, if you license your publication open, you must license images separately.

References and bibliography

Make sure that you correctly reference all used sources in in-text citations and bibliography. There are many ways on how to do this. Be consistent. Many journals have their own citation styles which you can find on on their web page. Furthermore, reference management programs, like Zotero or Mendeley, include the styles of many scholarly journals. You can manage your citations easily with these programs. Savonia doesn't have any commercial reference management programs, but for example the previously mentioned ones are freely available.

When your final report is ready

  1. Check the language, references, and bibliography of your report. Make sure that you have publication rights from co-authors and other creators. Remember to mark copyright information of images and decide if you license them open.
  2. Send the publication information to the library using the Savonia publication series form.
  3. The library delivers the materials to layout and at the same time connects layout editors and publishers for further discussion.
  4. The library will save the publication to Theseus and report it to publication information reporting service of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
  5. You will find your publication in Theseus and Research.fi. Savonia Communication and PR employees can also use social media to share information about Savonia publications.
